SHARP, a blacksmith (born 20 December 1800 in Waynesburg, Franklin Township, Greene County, PA; s/o Isaac Sharp and his wife, Mary Wolverton - died 19 September 1874 in Amwell Township, Washington County, PA). "Lived in a stone house in Amity." Children: 6 boys, 3 served in Civil War, one a surgeon; 3 girls, one married a Bebout, mother of T. C. Bebout, undertaker in Washington, PA." All children except Mary Ann born in Amity, Amwell Township, Washington County, PA. Elizabeth died 14 October 1881 at Amity; both interred at Amity Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Amity.

M241- Mary Ann Sharp born June 1824 at Carter's Creek, Washington County, PA. m. circa1867 to James HUGHES (born 1 January 1802 in Amity, Amwell Township, Washington County - died 26 August 1877 in Washington County). No issue. James was first married 3 February 1831 to Marcy Walton (born 28 August 1807 ­ died 25 August 1866) by whom he had at least three children; "He had a daughter older than she was when he married her." Mary Ann died 16 March 1912, aged 75 years, 7 months and 26 days. Mary Ann, James, Marcy and three of Marcy's small children are interred in Amity Presbyterian Church Cemetery (Section 1), Amity, Amwell Township, Washington County, PA.

Lost a leg in Battle of Gettysburg, Adams County, PA. Tombstone inscription: "Cephas D. Sharp Sergt Co C 140 Reg, PA Vols. Died at Gettysburg Aug. 2, 1863 from wounds received on the 2 day of July in the Battle of Gettysburg Aged 29 years" Interred at Amity Presbyterian Cemetery (Section 1), Amity, Amwell Township, Washington County, PA.

Commissioned as assistant surgeon, 140th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, September 1862. Major and surgeon, 18th Regiment, Pennsylvania Calvary, March 1864- March 1865. Sunday School teacher with gifts of illustration. William died 4 August 1883, aged 57 years, (interred 5 August) in Washington County; both interred in Amity Presbyterian Church Cemetery (Section 1), Amity.

Residence: Amity, 1830-1871; Washington, Washington County, 1871 - at least 1893. m. 5 March 1851 to Lavina Bane, d/o Abner and Mary Bane. Enlisted August 1862 in Company D, 140th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry; corporal in battle of Chancellorsville, his heroic action saved cannon under fire. Promoted to Sergeant 1 November 1863. Became sick and was sent to hospitals in Washington DC, Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Discharged with physical disability, 1 June 1864. Rendered unable for arduous labor, he engaged upon mercantile life. Isaac died 1907 in Washington, Washington County, PA.

Enlisted, 1861, Company B, 85th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry; siege of Yorktown, battle of Williamsburg; discharged September 1862 on account of disability; member, GAR. Operated stores in Amity, Beallsville (West Pike Run Township) and Washington. Proprietor, M. Sharp & Company, Washington, 1893-1900. Nominated for State Assembly and County Treasurer; Republican and Prohibitionist. Went to Ohio? Died before November 1927.

James was the Justice of the Peace of the township, Captain of the Company, expert cabinet maker and village undertaker. He mustered into Company D 22 August 1862 as a Corporal, and helped rescue the artillery pieces of the 5th Maine at Chancellorsville. He died 2 July 1863 in a wheat field at the Battle of Gettysburg, Adams County, PA). All children probably born in Amity. Elizabeth died 1883 in Washington County.
